Welcome to the world of solar electricity.
Rentech is proud to be recognized as the market leaders in renewable energy. At Rentech we wish to support you in your efforts to apply photovoltaic technology to solve electrical power problems. Whether you are an individual designing your own system or a system designer working on a large solar project, the Rentech team is there to assist you.

Solar photovoltaic (PV) technology uses the energy carried by sunlight to produce electricity. Here you can learn how PV works, what its benefits are, and how you can use PV in daily life. Some general information on other uses of solar energy is also provided.

What is Solar electricity?
The technical term for a solar panel is: Photovoltaic module
"Photo" meaning light
"Voltaic" from the word volts
Thus ….. "volts from light"

PV is one of the most environmentally friendly technologies available and is very easy to install.

How does Photovoltaics work?
PV technology uses the electrical properties of materials known as semiconductors to produce electricity. When hit by sunlight, a semiconductor material creates an electrical charge which can then be transferred through a circuit to anything that used electricity.

In a PV system, these semiconductors are produced in the form of cells, which are then assembled in a structural panel. There are many different types of panels available, and each has its particular advantages. Depending on the amount of electricity needed, these panels can then be connected in an array of any size to provide the electricity needed for a home, office, or larger facility.

Where is PV used?
PV cells and panels can be manufactured and installed at almost any scale. At its smallest, PV can be used to power calculators, laptop computers and other small appliances. At its largest, PV can be used to power homes, offices and other buildings that use large amounts of electricity.
